On Stage

I did my first ever open mic poetry reading last night. I read Trả Lại at The Blue Monk. I'll probably end up being a regular open mic attendee since happy hour goes 'til 8pm downstairs and there's no smoking.

D'oh

When asked, "do you think some women are out of your league?"
My response should be, "they aren't in another league, they are playing a whole different sport."

Beauty and the Geek Part Deux

I'm more of a loser than I thought.
Yay?

So they called me back to do another videotape interview. I have to admit I was incredibly nervous this time. Now it actually meant something. I had flippin' butterflies! I tossed and turned the night before wondering if I should geek out more. Apparently being myself the first time around worked. Which, again, disturbs me slightly.

Commute in Crescendo

I finally "finished" a set of sonnets I've been working on for a couple months now. The original "Hawthorne" one was modified and given three brothers. The set is titled, Commute in Crescendo for the four bridges I see as I make my way to work. Technically I also see the Steel Bridge, but I don't think I can fit another sonnet in.

Losing at being a loser

The fallout from the Beauty and the Geek casting call is that I've learned that I'm a loser when it comes to being a loser. Or so my friends tell me.

Where's My Geek Card?

I came looking for a laugh but left wondering, "Is my geek card still valid?" Of course I'm talking about the Beauty and the Geek casting call in Portland. I, in earnest, went to pimp PdotGeek, but since I was there anyways I might as well go through the process. Heck, maybe I'll end up on television and have my wild fantasies of celebrity soirées and heroine addiction come true. I've never done a casting call before.

Halloween Poem

Posted this a bit ago, but its appropriate to point it out now that All Hallows Eve is near. I don't know, it is a little cheesy, but I do enjoy the sound of it. Okay maybe the first poem on that page isn't appropriate, but I like that one too.

Do It

Paralyzed with fear?
  Parallelize the beer!

Portland Open Mics

PDX Magazine has a list of open mics that I got from reading this snippet about Tony's Tavern. Look for me at Tony's Tavern on Mondays (depending on MNF game) and/or Backspace on Fridays sometime 'cause I'll probably check these out. Maybe Alberta Street Pub as well, it's near where my bro lives, but that area isn't exactly the safest at night for those without a car.

Poetry Super Highway

Found this site recently that holds a nationwide poetry contest. Not particularly interested in entering myself, but I really enjoy seeing what others have done. I've gotten to the point where I'm finally beginning to analyze poetry. So its nice to read what current poets are doing and not just reading past greats.
